The Facility tour/class

 Every Saturday 1 pm

First, about our facility. We just outside the city limits surrounded by douglas fir trees and filled with several visual attractions (geese, ducks, peacocks and many many chickens). The scenary is always changing and we are always adding on in one way or another. Our facility is open for business 7 days a week, but we do not have the time to tour on a daily basis. Saturday is our primary day for worm sales and other product pick up, we have set aside time on this day at 1 pm for anyone who would like to know more about vermicompost, setting up a redworm compost or a redworm business and we can answer just about any question you can come up with about all types of compost.

  • On the tour you will see:
    • Small to commercial size compost systems working so you can see how simple and interesting vermicompost can be.
    • Small (table size) to electric commercial size compost harvesting systems to separate any amount of compost to make ready to use.
    • Vermicompost and other types of compost.
    • Our recycling process. We shred & compost over 7 tons of produce each month
    • In the warmer season you can see the benifits of our composting in the health of our garden.
  • During the tour I will be giving you as much information about composting as I can along with answering any questions that come up.
  • The tour/class is 30 to 45 minutes.
  • No appointment for the tour necessary, just be here before 1 pm. The cost is $5 per person/$10 for the family or group up to 4.

Vermicompost Class

This is a class that is suitable for all levels of compost enthusiasts. Although if you are a beginner it would be a good idea to read some of the basics about composting on our other pages before you come out. We will cover:

  • Types of compost and when you should use them
  • Compost and redworm biology
  • Compost systems for redworms and other types of compost
  • Setting up, feeding and harvesting your compost
  • Compost critters - good, bad and ugly
  • Common problems and the solutions
  • How long to compost and how to harvest
  • and much more.

This class is a little bit of lecture and then hands on or "hands in" to your compost. I think it's a good idea: to see what you need for your before you get started, how composting works, and what options you can use. There is a ten page hand out of information that comes with the class so you don't have to take notes (at least not too many). You must sign up in advance so I know how many copies of handouts to have on hand.
